There are many ways to order from HopTech. You can now order over the web with our fully secure on-line shopping cart! Click the "help" link down in the lower left for more info. You can call us (1-800-379-4677) and place your order over the phone. We take orders Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm . All times are Pacific Time. You can also fax us your order. You can also place your order with email (order@hoptech.com ). All of the above assume you're paying with either Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express. Lastly, you can mail us your order with a check or money order (checks can take a while to clear and there is a $20 charge if they don't). Please make sure you get the shipping and taxes (if any) right so we don't have to delay your order. The best way to do this is use the web system and begin the checkout process until you see the display of your items which should include shipping charges. Note: Please use our shopping cart system instead of emailing us an order direct (click the "help" link in the lower left corner for more info). Not only is it more secure, but it's less prone to errors. If you can't for some reason, then you can email us an order. Be sure to give us complete information including your shipping address, credit card number, expiration date, a phone number where you can be reached in case there's a problem with your order, and complete information on what you want. It is best if you use the item numbers, but make sure you specify whole or pellet hops, and whether or not you want your grain whole or crushed. It may sound obvious, but you'd be surprised the number of times we have to try and get a hold of someone to ask these questions.
If you live in California, please include 8.25% sales tax. But please note that a lot of our products are not taxable. The only taxable products are books, equipment and supplies. Hops, oils, essences, extracts and flavors, malt, yeast etc. are not taxable. Here's the best way to think about it: if you're going to use the item as an ingredient in your beer, it is not taxable. If it is a piece of equipment, a book, sanitizing or cleaning solution etc., then these are taxable, but only if you live in California. If you live out of state, there is no tax regardless
We ship most everything UPS (Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, military post offices, APO/FPO addresses and US Territories go by priority air mail and we have a variety of options if you live in any other country). Shipping for most orders is the actual UPS shipping cost ($7.00 minimum charge) based on the weight of your order and the destination. If part of your order is backordered, we don't charge shipping again when we finally send you the balance of your order. Exceptions: If you live where we have to use the mail (Hawaii, Alaska, US Territories and APO/FPO addresses) or in another country, we charge the actual shipping costs plus $5.00 handling regardless of your order size, including backorder shipments. You can contact us for a quote, but it's most convenient for all if you just pay with a credit card.
We can ship your order by UPS 3 Day Select, 2nd Day Air or Next Day Air service. Your cost is the actual shipping charges regardless of your order size. Email us and we'll be happy to let you know what the costs would be. If you don't care what the costs are, just put your preferred method of faster shipping (Next Day, 2nd Day, Three Day) in the special comments section of the order form and we'll do the rest. Please note that it can get expensive. Your request for special shipping is also your authorization that you are willing to pay the extra charges.
Sometimes we are out of stock on an item. If we expect it in a week or so, we'll hold your order to ship it complete. If your order will be held up more than a week, we'll backorder the item and ship it to you when it comes in. If you don't want us to backorder items, check the "Don't Backorder" box on the order form. We know that if you're planning to brew and you expect some ingredients to brew with, if we backorder something you might be unable to brew. Therefore, you can tell us to substitute the next best thing. For hops you have some options: You can tell us that substituting whole or pellets is OK. You can also tell us to substitute the next closest variety (in our opinion). These two choices are interactive. For example, if it's not OK to substitute the form, we'll choose the next closest variety in the same form as you ordered. If you order by phone, we'll usually be able to let you know if there will be any problems or not.
